The Shroud of Ignorance
- 1.1

“Nāhaṁ, bhikkhave, aññaṁ ekanīvaraṇampi samanupassāmi yena nīvaraṇena nivutā pajā dīgharattaṁ sandhāvanti saṁsaranti yathayidaṁ, bhikkhave, avijjānīvaraṇaṁ.
“Mendicants, I do not see a single shroud, shrouded by which people wander and transmigrate for a long time like the shroud of ignorance.
- 2.2
Avijjānīvaraṇena hi, bhikkhave, nivutā pajā dīgharattaṁ sandhāvanti saṁsarantī”ti.
Shrouded by ignorance, people wander and transmigrate for a long time.”
- 2.3
Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca.
The Buddha spoke this matter.
- 2.4

Ye ca mohaṁ pahantvāna,
Those who have given up delusion,
- 4.2

shattering the mass of darkness,
- 4.3
Na te puna saṁsaranti,
wander no more,
- 4.4
hetu tesaṁ na vijjatī”ti.
the root is not found in them.”
- 5.1
