Purity
- 1.1
Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:
This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
- 2.1
“Tīṇimāni, bhikkhave, soceyyāni.
“Mendicants, there are these three kinds of purity.
- 2.2
Katamāni tīṇi?
What three?
- 2.3
Kāyasoceyyaṁ, vacīsoceyyaṁ, manosoceyyaṁ—
Purity of body, speech, and mind.
- 2.4
imāni kho, bhikkhave, tīṇi soceyyānī”ti.
These are the three kinds of purity.”
- 2.5
Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca.
The Buddha spoke this matter.
- 2.6
Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:
On this it is said:

“Kāyasuciṁ vacīsuciṁ,
“Purity of body, purity of speech,
- 3.2
cetosucimanāsavaṁ;
and undefiled purity of heart.
- 3.3
Suciṁ soceyyasampannaṁ,
A pure one, blessed with purity,
- 3.4
āhu sabbappahāyinan”ti.
has given up everything, they say.”

Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.
This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
