Katamā tisso?
What three?
- 2.3
Paccupaṭṭhitakāmā, nimmānaratino, paranimmitavasavattino—
Some sensual pleasures are simply present; some are for those who love to create; and some are for those who control what is created by others.

imā kho, bhikkhave, tisso kāmūpapattiyo”ti.
These are the three ways of being provided with sensual pleasures.”

Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:
On this it is said:

“Paccupaṭṭhitakāmā ca,

gods who control what is created by others,

Nimmānaratino devā,
gods who love to create,

They go from this state to another,

Etamādīnavaṁ ñatvā,
Knowing this danger

Sabbe pariccaje kāme,
would forsake all sensual pleasures,

ye dibbā ye ca mānusā.
both human and heavenly.
- 5.1
Piyarūpasātagadhitaṁ,
Having cut the stream so hard to pass,
- 5.2
chetvā sotaṁ duraccayaṁ;
that’s tied to pleasant seeming things,
- 5.3
Asesaṁ parinibbanti,
they become fully extinguished,
- 5.4
asesaṁ dukkhamaccaguṁ.
completely transcending suffering.
- 6.1
Ariyaddasā vedaguno,
Seers of the noble truths, knowledge masters,
- 6.2
sammadaññāya paṇḍitā;
the astute, understanding rightly,
- 6.3
Jātikkhayamabhiññāya,
directly know the ending of rebirth,
- 6.4
nāgacchanti punabbhavan”ti.
they come not back to future lives.”
- 7.1
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.
This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
