Sekhiya

Rules of Training

The rules in this category are known in Pali as <i lang='pi' translate='no'>sekhiya</i>, “involving training”. There are seventy-five such rules, and they are the same both for the monks and the nuns. The <i lang='pi' translate='no'>sekhiyas</i> are mostly rules of etiquette. Breaking a <i lang='pi' translate='no'>sekhiya</i> is only considered to be a transgression if the offender is acting out of disrespect for the rule.
