Aniccasutta

Rādha asks the Buddha about impermanence, and the Buddha explains in terms of the five aggregates.

    Sāvatthinidānaṁ.

    At Sāvatthī.

    Ekamantaṁ nisinno kho āyasmā rādho bhagavantaṁ etadavoca:

    Seated to one side, Venerable Rādha said to the Buddha:

    “‘aniccaṁ, aniccan’ti, bhante, vuccati.

    “Sir, they speak of ‘impermanence’.

  7. 1.4

    Katamaṁ nu kho, bhante, aniccan”ti?

    What has impermanent nature?”

    “Rūpaṁ kho, rādha, aniccaṁ, vedanā aniccā, saññā aniccā, saṅkhārā aniccā, viññāṇaṁ aniccaṁ.

    “Rādha, form, feeling, perception, choices, and consciousness are impermanent.

    nāparaṁ itthattāyāti pajānātī”ti.

    They understand: ‘… there is nothing further for this place.’”
