    “Catunnaṁ, bhikkhave, satipaṭṭhānānaṁ samudayañca atthaṅgamañca desessāmi.

    “Mendicants, I will teach you the origin and disappearance of the four kinds of mindfulness meditation.

    Ko ca, bhikkhave, kāyassa samudayo?

    What is the origin of the body?

  7. 1.4

    Āhārasamudayā kāyassa samudayo;

    The body originates from fuel.

  8. 1.5

    āhāranirodhā kāyassa atthaṅgamo.

    When fuel ceases, the body disappears.

  9. 1.6

    Phassasamudayā vedanānaṁ samudayo;

    Feelings originate from contact.

  10. 1.7

    phassanirodhā vedanānaṁ atthaṅgamo.

    When contact ceases, feelings disappear.

  11. 1.8

    Nāmarūpasamudayā cittassa samudayo;

    The mind originates from name and form.

  12. 1.9

    nāmarūpanirodhā cittassa atthaṅgamo.

    When name and form cease, the mind disappears.

  13. 1.10

    Manasikārasamudayā dhammānaṁ samudayo;

    Principles originate from application of mind.

  14. 1.11

    manasikāranirodhā dhammānaṁ atthaṅgamo”ti.

    When application of mind disappears, principles disappear.”
