ฉบับหลวงโกธสูตรที่ ๑
ข้อความไทยนี้คือ พระไตรปิฎกภาษาไทย ฉบับหลวง ซึ่งแปลจากพระไตรปิฎกบาลีคนละฉบับกับบาลีที่แสดงอยู่ด้านล่าง จึงไม่ได้เรียงตรงกันบรรทัดต่อบรรทัด — อ่านเป็นสำนวนแปลอิสระอีกฉบับหนึ่ง
ข้อ ๔๓ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย บุคคล ๔ จำพวกนี้ มีปรากฏอยู่ในโลก๔ จำพวกเป็นไฉน คือ เป็นผู้หนักในความโกรธ ไม่หนักในสัทธรรม ๑เป็นผู้หนักในความลบหลู่ ไม่หนักใน สัทธรรม ๑ เป็นผู้หนักในลาภ ไม่หนักในสัทธรรม ๑ เป็นผู้หนักในสักการะ ไม่หนักในสัทธรรม ๑ บุคคล ๔จำพวกนี้แล มีปรากฏอยู่ในโลก ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย บุคคล ๔ จำพวกนี้มีปรากฏอยู่ ในโลก ๔ จำพวกเป็นไฉน คือ เป็นผู้หนักในสัทธรรม ไม่หนักในความโกรธ ๑ เป็นผู้หนักใน สัทธรรม ไม่หนักในความลบหลู่ ๑ เป็นผู้หนักในสัทธรรม ไม่หนักในลาภ ๑ เป็นผู้หนักใน สัทธรรม ไม่หนักในสักการะ ๑บุคคล ๔ จำพวกนี้แล มีปรากฏอยู่ในโลก ฯ
ภิกษุผู้หนักในความโกรธ และความลบหลู่ หนักในลาภ
และสักการะ พวกเธอย่อมไม่งอกงามในธรรมอันพระ
สัมมาสัมพุทธะแสดงแล้ว ส่วนภิกษุเหล่าใด เป็นผู้หนัก
ใน สัทธรรมอยู่แล้ว และกำลังเป็นผู้หนักในสัทธรรมอยู่
ภิกษุเหล่านั้นแล ย่อมงอกงามในธรรมอันพระสัมมา
สัมพุทธะ ทรงแสดงแล้ว ฯ

“Cattārome, bhikkhave, puggalā santo saṁvijjamānā lokasmiṁ.
“Mendicants, these four individuals are found in the world.

Kodhagaru na saddhammagaru, makkhagaru na saddhammagaru, lābhagaru na saddhammagaru, sakkāragaru na saddhammagaru.
People who value anger, or denigration, or material things, or honor rather than the true teaching.

Ime kho, bhikkhave, cattāro puggalā santo saṁvijjamānā lokasmiṁ.
These are the four individuals found in the world.

Kodhamakkhagarū bhikkhū,
Mendicants who value anger and denigration,

lābhasakkāragāravā;
possessions and honor,

Na te dhamme virūhanti,
don’t grow in the teaching

sammāsambuddhadesite.
that was taught by the perfected Buddha.

Ye ca saddhammagaruno,
But those who value the true teaching,
- 4.2
vihaṁsu viharanti ca;
who have lived it, and are living it now,
- 4.3
Te ve dhamme virūhanti,
these do grow in the teaching

sammāsambuddhadesite”ti.
