อายุของวุฒิสภามีกำหนดคราวละห้าปีนับแต่วันประกาศผลการเลือก สมาชิกภาพของสมาชิกวุฒิสภาเริ่มตั้งแต่วันที่คณะกรรมการการเลือกตั้งประกาศผลการเลือก เมื่ออายุของวุฒิสภาสิ้นสุดลง ให้สมาชิกวุฒิสภาอยู่ในตำแหน่งเพื่อปฏิบัติหน้าที่ต่อไปจนกว่าจะมี สมาชิกวุฒิสภาขึ้นใหม่
