เล่ม ๒๔ · หน้า ๑๕๓สมัยหนึ่ง พระผู้มีพระภาคประทับอยู่ ณ พระวิหารเชตวันอารามของท่านอนาถ บิณฑิกเศรษฐี ใกล้พระนครสาวัตถี ครั้งนั้นแล ท่านอนาถบิณฑิกคฤหบดี เข้าไปเฝ้าพระผู้มี พระภาคยังที่ประทับ ถวายบังคมพระผู้มีพระภาคแล้ว นั่ง ณ ที่ควรส่วนข้างหนึ่ง ครั้นแล้ว พระผู้มีพระภาคได้ตรัสกะอนาถบิณฑิกคฤหบดีว่า ดูกรคฤหบดี กามโภคีบุคคลมีอยู่ในโลก ๑๐ จำพวก ๑๐ จำพวกเป็นไฉน คือ กามโภคีบุคคลบางคนในโลกนี้ แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์โดย ไม่ชอบธรรม โดยทารุณ ครั้นแสวงหาได้แล้ว ไม่เลี้ยงตนให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำไม่แจกจ่าย ไม่กระทำบุญ ๑ กามโภคีบุคคลบางคนในโลกนี้ แสวงหาทรัพย์โดยไม่ชอบธรรม โดยทารุณ ครั้นแสวงหาได้แล้ว ย่อมเลี้ยงตนให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำ แต่ไม่แจกจ่าย ไม่กระทำบุญ ๑ กามโภคีบุคคลบางคนในโลกนี้ แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์โดยไม่ชอบธรรม โดยทารุณ ครั้นแสวงหา ได้แล้ว ย่อมเลี้ยงตนให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำ แจกจ่ายกระทำบุญ ๑ กามโภคีบุคคลบางคนในโลก นี้ แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์โดยชอบธรรม และไม่ชอบธรรม โดยทารุณบ้าง ไม่ทารุณบ้าง ครั้น แสวงหาได้แล้ว ไม่เลี้ยงตนให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำ ไม่แจกจ่าย ไม่กระทำบุญ ๑ กามโภคีบุคคล บางคนในโลกนี้ แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์โดยชอบธรรมและไม่ชอบธรรม โดยทารุณบ้าง ไม่ทารุณ บ้าง ครั้นแสวงหาได้แล้ว ย่อมเลี้ยงตนให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำแต่ไม่แจกจ่าย ไม่กระทำบุญ ๑ กามโภคีบุคคลบางคนในโลกนี้ แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์โดยชอบธรรม และไม่ชอบธรรม โดยทารุณ บ้าง ไม่ทารุณบ้าง ครั้นแสวงหาได้แล้วย่อมเลี้ยงตนให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำ แจกจ่ายกระทำ บุญ ๑ กามโภคีบุคคลบางคนในโลกนี้ แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์โดยชอบธรรม โดยไม่ทารุณ ครั้น แสวงหาได้แล้ว ย่อมไม่เลี้ยงตนให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำ ไม่แจกจ่าย ไม่กระทำบุญ ๑ กามโภคี บุคคลบางคนในโลกนี้ ย่อมแสวงหาโภคทรัพย์โดยชอบธรรม โดยไม่ทารุณ ครั้นแสวงหาได้แล้ว ย่อมเลี้ยงตนให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำ แต่ไม่แจกจ่าย ไม่กระทำบุญ ๑ กามโภคีบุคคลบางคน ในโลกนี้ แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์โดยชอบธรรมโดยไม่ทารุณ ครั้นแสวงหาได้แล้ว ย่อมเลี้ยงตน

เล่ม ๒๔ · หน้า ๑๕๔ให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำ แจกจ่ายกระทำบุญ แต่เป็นผู้กำหนัด หมกมุ่น จดจ่อ ไม่เห็นโทษ ไม่มีปัญญาเป็นเครื่องสลัดออก บริโภคโภคทรัพย์นั้น ๑ กามโภคีบุคคลบางคนในโลกนี้ แสวง หาโภคทรัพย์โดยชอบธรรม โดยไม่ทารุณ ครั้นแสวงหาได้แล้ว ย่อมเลี้ยงตนให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำ แจกจ่าย กระทำบุญ และเป็นผู้ไม่กำหนัด ไม่หมกมุ่นไม่จดจ่อ เห็นโทษ มี ปัญญาเป็นเครื่องสลัดออก บริโภคโภคทรัพย์นั้น ๑ ฯ

ดูกรคฤหบดี ในกามโภคีบุคคล ๑๐ จำพวกนั้น กามโภคีบุคคลผู้แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์โดย ไม่ชอบธรรม โดยทารุณ ครั้นแสวงหาได้แล้ว ย่อมไม่เลี้ยงตนให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำ ไม่ แจกจ่าย ไม่กระทำบุญ กามโภคีบุคคลนี้ ควรติเตียนโดย ๓ สถาน คือ ควรติเตียนโดยสถาน ที่ ๑ ว่า แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์โดยไม่ชอบธรรม โดยทารุณ ควรติเตียนโดยสถานที่ ๒ ว่า ไม่ เลี้ยงตนให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำ ควรติเตียนโดยสถานที่ ๓ ว่า ไม่แจกจ่าย ไม่กระทำบุญ กามโภคีบุคคลนี้ควรติเตียนโดย ๓ สถานนี้ ฯ

กามโภคีบุคคลผู้แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์โดยไม่ชอบธรรม โดยทารุณ ครั้นแสวงหาได้แล้ว ย่อมเลี้ยงตนให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำ แต่ไม่แจกจ่าย ไม่กระทำบุญ กามโภคีบุคคลนี้ การติเตียน โดย ๒ สถาน ควรสรรเสริญโดย ๑ สถานคือ ควรติเตียนโดยสถานที่ ๑ ว่า แสวงหา โภคทรัพย์โดยไม่ชอบธรรม โดยทารุณ ควรสรรเสริญโดยสถานเดียวว่า เลี้ยงตนให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำ ควรติเตียนโดยสถานที่ ๒ ว่า ไม่แจกจ่าย ไม่ทำบุญ กามโภคีบุคคลนี้ ควรติเตียน โดย ๒ สถานนี้ ควรสรรเสริญโดย ๑ สถานนี้ ฯ

กามโภคีบุคคลผู้แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์โดยไม่ชอบธรรม โดยทารุณ ครั้นแสวงหาได้แล้ว ย่อมเลี้ยงตนให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำ แจกจ่ายกระทำบุญ กามโภคีบุคคลนี้ ควรติเตียนโดย ๑ สถาน ควรสรรเสริญโดยสถาน ๒ คือ ควรติเตียนโดย ๑ สถานว่า แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์โดย ไม่ชอบธรรม โดยทารุณ ควรสรรเสริญโดยสถานที่ ๑ ว่า เลี้ยงตนให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำ ควรสรรเสริญโดยสถานที่ ๒ ว่า แจกจ่าย กระทำบุญ กามโภคีบุคคลนี้ควรติเตียนโดย ๑ สถานควรสรรเสริญโดย ๒ สถานนี้ ฯ

กามโภคีบุคคลผู้แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์ โดยชอบธรรมและไม่ชอบธรรมโดยทารุณบ้าง ไม่ทารุณบ้าง ครั้นแสวงหาได้แล้ว ย่อมไม่เลี้ยงตนให้เป็นสุขให้อิ่มหนำ ไม่แจกจ่าย ไม่ กระทำบุญ กามโภคีบุคคลนี้ ควรสรรเสริญโดย ๑สถาน ควรติเตียนโดย ๓ สถาน คือ ควร

กามโภคีบุคคลผู้แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์ โดยชอบธรรมและไม่ชอบธรรมโดยทารุณบ้าง ไม่ทารุณบ้าง ครั้นแสวงหาได้แล้ว ย่อมเลี้ยงตนให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำ แต่ไม่แจกจ่าย ไม่ กระทำบุญ กามโภคีบุคคลนี้ ควรสรรเสริญโดย ๒สถาน ควรติเตียนโดย ๒ สถาน คือ ควร สรรเสริญโดยสถานที่ ๑ ว่า แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์โดยชอบธรรม โดยไม่ทารุณ ควรติเตียนโดย สถานที่ ๑ ว่า แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์โดยไม่ชอบธรรม โดยทารุณ ควรสรรเสริญโดยสถานที่ ๒ ว่า เลี้ยงตนให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำ ควรติเตียนโดยสถานที่ ๒ ว่า ไม่แจกจ่าย ไม่กระทำบุญ กามโภคีบุคคลนี้ ควรสรรเสริญโดย ๒ สถานนี้ ควรติเตียนโดย ๒สถานนี้ ฯ

กามโภคีบุคคลผู้แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์ โดยชอบธรรมและไม่ชอบธรรมโดยทารุณบ้าง ไม่ทารุณบ้าง ครั้นแสวงหาได้แล้ว ย่อมเลี้ยงตนให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำ แจกจ่าย กระทำบุญ กามโภคีบุคคลนี้ ควรสรรเสริญโดย ๓ สถานควรติเตียนโดย ๑ สถาน ควรสรรเสริญโดย สถานที่ ๑ ว่า แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์โดยชอบธรรม โดยไม่ทารุณ ควรติเตียนโดย ๑ สถานว่า แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์โดยไม่ชอบธรรม โดยทารุณ ควรสรรเสริญโดยสถานที่ ๒ ว่า ย่อมเลี้ยง ตนให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำ ควรสรรเสริญโดยสถานที่ ๓ ว่า แจกจ่าย กระทำบุญกามโภคี บุคคลนี้ ควรสรรเสริญโดย ๓ สถานนี้ ควรติเตียนโดย ๑ สถานนี้ ฯ

กามโภคีบุคคลผู้แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์โดยชอบธรรม โดยไม่ทารุณ ครั้นแสวงหาได้แล้ว ย่อมเลี้ยงตนให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำ แจกจ่ายกระทำบุญ และไม่กำหนัด ไม่หมกมุ่น ไม่จดจ่อ เห็นโทษ มีปัญญาเป็นเครื่องสลัดออกบริโภคโภคทรัพย์นั้น กามโภคีบุคคลนี้ ควรสรรเสริญ โดย ๔ สถาน คือ ควรสรรเสริญโดยสถานที่ ๑ ว่า แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์โดยชอบธรรม โดย ไม่ทารุณควรสรรเสริญโดยสถานที่ ๒ ว่า ย่อมเลี้ยงตนให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำ ควรสรรเสริญ โดยสถานที่ ๓ ว่า แจกจ่าย กระทำบุญ ควรสรรเสริญโดยสถานที่ ๔ว่า เป็นผู้ไม่กำหนัด ไม่หมกมุ่น ไม่พัวพัน เห็นโทษ มีปัญญาเป็นเครื่องสลัดออก บริโภคโภคทรัพย์นั้น กามโภคี บุคคลนี้ ควรสรรเสริญโดย ๔ สถานนี้ ฯ

ดูกรคฤหบดี กามโภคีบุคคล ๑๐ จำพวกนี้แล มีปรากฏอยู่ในโลกบรรดากามโภคี บุคคล ๑๐ จำพวกนี้ กามโภคีบุคคลผู้แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์โดยชอบธรรมโดยไม่ทารุณ ครั้น แสวงหาได้แล้ว ย่อมเลี้ยงตนให้เป็นสุข ให้อิ่มหนำ แจกจ่ายกระทำบุญ และเป็นผู้ ไม่กำหนัด ไม่หมกมุ่น ไม่จดจ่อ เห็นโทษ มีปัญญาเป็นเครื่องสลัดออก บริโภคโภคทรัพย์ นั้น นี้เป็นผู้เลิศ ประเสริฐ เป็นใหญ่สูงสุด ดีกว่ากามโภคีบุคคล ๑๐ จำพวกนี้ ดูกรคฤหบดี นมสดเกิดจากแม่โคนมส้มเกิดจากนมสด เนยข้นเกิดจากนมส้ม เนยใสเกิดจากเนยข้น

    Ekaṁ samayaṁ bhagavā sāvatthiyaṁ viharati jetavane anāthapiṇḍikassa ārāme.

    At one time the Buddha was staying near Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s monastery.

    Atha kho anāthapiṇḍiko gahapati yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavantaṁ abhivādetvā ekamantaṁ nisīdi. Ekamantaṁ nisinnaṁ kho anāthapiṇḍikaṁ gahapatiṁ bhagavā etadavoca:

    Then the householder Anāthapiṇḍika went up to the Buddha, bowed, and sat down to one side. Seated to one side, the Buddha said to the householder Anāthapiṇḍika:

    adhammena bhoge pariyesitvā sāhasena na attānaṁ sukheti na pīṇeti na saṁvibhajati na puññāni karoti.

    They don’t make themselves happy and pleased, nor share it and make merit.

    Idha pana, gahapati, ekacco kāmabhogī adhammena bhoge pariyesati sāhasena;

    Next, a pleasure seeker seeks wealth using illegitimate, coercive means.

    adhammena bhoge pariyesitvā sāhasena attānaṁ sukheti pīṇeti, na saṁvibhajati na puññāni karoti.

    They make themselves happy and pleased, but don’t share it and make merit.

    Te ca bhoge gathito mucchito ajjhosanno anādīnavadassāvī anissaraṇapañño paribhuñjati.

    But they enjoy that wealth tied, infatuated, attached, blind to the drawbacks, and not understanding the escape.

    dhammena bhoge pariyesitvā asāhasena attānaṁ sukheti pīṇeti saṁvibhajati puññāni karoti.

    They make themselves happy and pleased, and they share it and make merit.

  29. 11.3

    Te ca bhoge agathito amucchito anajjhosanno ādīnavadassāvī nissaraṇapañño paribhuñjati.

    And they enjoy that wealth untied, uninfatuated, unattached, seeing the drawbacks, and understanding the escape.

    Tatra, gahapati, yvāyaṁ kāmabhogī adhammena bhoge pariyesati sāhasena, adhammena bhoge pariyesitvā sāhasena na attānaṁ sukheti na pīṇeti na saṁvibhajati na puññāni karoti, ayaṁ, gahapati, kāmabhogī tīhi ṭhānehi gārayho.

    Now, consider the pleasure seeker who seeks wealth using illegitimate, coercive means, and who doesn’t make themselves happy and pleased, nor share it and make merit. They may be criticized on three grounds.

    ‘Adhammena bhoge pariyesati sāhasenā’ti, iminā paṭhamena ṭhānena gārayho.

    They seek for wealth using illegitimate, coercive means. This is the first ground for criticism.

  32. 12.3

    ‘Na attānaṁ sukheti na pīṇetī’ti, iminā dutiyena ṭhānena gārayho.

    They don’t make themselves happy and pleased. This is the second ground for criticism.

  33. 12.4

    ‘Na saṁvibhajati na puññāni karotī’ti, iminā tatiyena ṭhānena gārayho.

    They don’t share it and make merit. This is the third ground for criticism.

  34. 12.5

    Ayaṁ, gahapati, kāmabhogī imehi tīhi ṭhānehi gārayho.

    This pleasure seeker may be criticized on these three grounds.

  35. 13.1

    This pleasure seeker may be praised on these four grounds.

  85. 22.1

    Ime kho, gahapati, dasa kāmabhogī santo saṁvijjamānā lokasmiṁ.

    These are the ten pleasure seekers found in the world.

  86. 22.2

    Imesaṁ kho, gahapati, dasannaṁ kāmabhogīnaṁ yvāyaṁ kāmabhogī dhammena bhoge pariyesati asāhasena, dhammena bhoge pariyesitvā asāhasena attānaṁ sukheti pīṇeti saṁvibhajati puññāni karoti, te ca bhoge agathito amucchito anajjhosanno ādīnavadassāvī nissaraṇapañño paribhuñjati, ayaṁ imesaṁ dasannaṁ kāmabhogīnaṁ aggo ca seṭṭho ca pāmokkho ca uttamo ca pavaro ca.

    The pleasure seeker who seeks wealth using legitimate, non-coercive means, who makes themselves happy and pleased, and shares it and makes merit, and who uses that wealth untied, uninfatuated, unattached, seeing the drawbacks, and understanding the escape is the foremost, best, chief, highest, and finest of the ten.

  87. 22.3

    Seyyathāpi, gahapati, gavā khīraṁ, khīramhā dadhi, dadhimhā navanītaṁ, navanītamhā sappi, sappimhā sappimaṇḍo. Sappimaṇḍo tattha aggamakkhāyati.

    From a cow comes milk, from milk comes curds, from curds come butter, from butter comes ghee, and from ghee comes cream of ghee. And the cream of ghee is said to be the best of these.

  88. 23.1

    Evamevaṁ kho, gahapati, imesaṁ dasannaṁ kāmabhogīnaṁ yvāyaṁ kāmabhogī dhammena bhoge pariyesati asāhasena, dhammena bhoge pariyesitvā asāhasena attānaṁ sukheti pīṇeti saṁvibhajati puññāni karoti, te ca bhoge agathito amucchito anajjhosanno ādīnavadassāvī nissaraṇapañño paribhuñjati, ayaṁ imesaṁ dasannaṁ kāmabhogīnaṁ aggo ca seṭṭho ca pāmokkho ca uttamo ca pavaro cā”ti.

    In the same way, the pleasure seeker who seeks wealth using legitimate, non-coercive means, who makes themselves happy and pleased, and shares it and makes merit, and who uses that wealth untied, uninfatuated, unattached, seeing the drawbacks, and understanding the escape is the foremost, best, chief, highest, and finest of the ten.”
