ข้อ ๒๐ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภัตตุเทสก์ผู้ประกอบไปด้วยธรรม ๔ ประการ เหมือนถูกนำไป วางไว้ในนรก ธรรม ๔ ประการเป็นไฉน คือ ภัตตุเทสก์ย่อมถึงฉันทาคติ ย่อมถึงโทสาคติ ย่อม ถึงโมหาคติ ย่อมถึงภยาคติ ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลายภัตตุเทสก์ผู้ประกอบไปด้วยธรรม ๔ ประการนี้แล
เหมือนถูกนำไปวางไว้ในนรกดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภัตตุเทสก์ผู้ประกอบไปด้วยธรรม ๔ ประการ
เหมือนถูกนำไปวางไว้ในสวรรค์ ธรรม ๔ ประการเป็นไฉน คือ ภัตตุเทสก์ย่อมไม่ถึงฉันทาคติ ย่อมไม่ถึงโทสาคติ ย่อมไม่ถึงโมหาคติ ย่อมไม่ถึงภยาคติ ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลายภัตตุเทสก์ผู้ประกอบ ไปด้วยธรรม ๔ ประการนี้แล เหมือนถูกนำไปวางไว้ในสวรรค์ ฯ
ชนเหล่าใดเหล่าหนึ่งไม่สำรวมในกาม ไม่ประกอบด้วย
ธรรม ไม่เคารพในธรรม มีปรกติถึงฉันทาคติ โทสาคติ
เล่ม ๒๑ · หน้า ๑๙โมหาคติ และภยาคติ ก็แลบุคคลนี้เราเรียกว่า เป็น
หยากเยื่อในบริษัท อันสมณะผู้รู้กล่าวแล้วอย่างนี้ ชน
เหล่าใดตั้งอยู่ในธรรม มี ปรกติไม่ถึงฉันทาคติ โทสาคติ
โมหาคติ ภยาคติ ย่อมไม่ กระทำกรรมอันลามก เพราะ
ฉะนั้น บุคคลนั้นชื่อว่า เป็น สัตบุรุษที่น่าสรรเสริญ ก็
แลบุคคลนี้เราเรียกว่าเป็นผู้ผุดผ่องในบริษัท อันสมณะ
ผู้รู้กล่าวแล้วอย่างนี้ ฯ

“Catūhi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato bhattuddesako yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ niraye.
“Mendicants, a meal assigner who has four qualities is placed in hell as if delivered there.

Chandāgatiṁ gacchati, dosāgatiṁ gacchati, mohāgatiṁ gacchati, bhayāgatiṁ gacchati—
They make decisions prejudiced by favoritism, hostility, stupidity, and cowardice.

imehi kho, bhikkhave, catūhi dhammehi samannāgato bhattuddesako yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ niraye.
A meal assigner who has these four qualities is placed in hell as if delivered there.

A meal assigner who has these four qualities is placed in heaven as if delivered there.

Ye keci kāmesu asaññatā janā,
All those people with unbridled sensuality,
- 3.2
Adhammikā honti adhammagāravā;
unprincipled, with no respect for principle,
- 3.3
Chandā dosā mohā ca bhayā gāmino,
led astray by favoritism or hostility,
stupidity or cowardice, - 3.4
Parisākasaṭo ca panesa vuccati.
are called ‘an assembly of the dregs’:

Evañhi vuttaṁ samaṇena jānatā,
that’s what was said by the ascetic who knows.

Tasmā hi te sappurisā pasaṁsiyā;
And so those praiseworthy true persons,

Dhamme ṭhitā ye na karonti pāpakaṁ,
standing on principle, doing nothing wrong,

Na chandā na dosā na mohā na bhayā ca gāmino;
not led astray by favoritism or hostility,
stupidity or cowardice, - 4.5
Parisāya maṇḍo ca panesa vuccati,
are called ‘an assembly of the cream’:
