ข้อ ๒๖๐ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุประกอบด้วยธรรม ๕ ประการ สงฆ์ไม่พึงสมมติให้ เป็นภัตตุเทสก์ ธรรม ๕ ประการเป็นไฉน คือ ลำเอียงเพราะรัก ๑ลำเอียงเพราะชัง ๑ ลำเอียงเพราะหลง ๑ ลำเอียงเพราะกลัว ๑ ย่อมไม่รู้ภัตที่ได้นิมนต์แล้ว และยังไม่ได้นิมนต์ ๑ ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุประกอบด้วยธรรม๕ ประการนี้แล สงฆ์ไม่พึงสมมติให้เป็นภัตตุเทสก์ ฯ
ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุประกอบด้วยธรรม ๕ ประการ สงฆ์พึงสมมติให้เป็นภัตตุ เทสก์ ธรรม ๕ ประการเป็นไฉน คือ ไม่ลำเอียงเพราะรัก ๑ ไม่ลำเอียงเพราะชัง ๑ ไม่ ลำเอียงเพราะหลง ๑ ไม่ลำเอียงเพราะกลัว ๑ ย่อมรู้ภัตที่ได้นิมนต์ ๑ ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุ ประกอบด้วยธรรม๕ ประการนี้แล สงฆ์พึงสมมติให้เป็นภัตตุเทสก์ ฯ

สงฆ์พึงสมมติให้เป็นภัตตุเทสก์ สมมติแล้วก็พึงใช้ให้ทำการ ฯลฯ ภิกษุภัตตุเทสก์ประกอบ ด้วยธรรม ๕ ประการ พึงทราบว่าเป็นพาล ฯลฯ ภิกษุภัตตุเทสก์ประกอบด้วยธรรม ๕ ประการ พึงทราบว่าเป็นบัณฑิต ฯลฯ ภิกษุภัตตุเทสก์ประกอบด้วยธรรม ๕ ประการ ย่อมบริหารตนให้ ถูกขจัด ถูกทำลาย ฯลฯ ภิกษุภัตตุเทสก์ประกอบด้วยธรรม ๕ ประการ ย่อมบริหารตนไม่ให้ ถูกขจัด ไม่ให้ถูกทำลาย ฯลฯ ภิกษุภัตตุเทสก์ประกอบด้วยธรรม๕ ประการ ย่อมเกิดในนรก
เหมือนนำมาโยนลง ฯลฯ ภิกษุภัตตุเทสก์ประกอบด้วยธรรม ๕ ประการ ย่อมเกิดในสวรรค์ เหมือนเชิญมาประดิษฐานไว้ ธรรม ๕ประการเป็นไฉน คือ ไม่ลำเอียงเพราะรัก ๑ ไม่ ลำเอียงเพราะชัง ๑ ไม่ลำเอียงเพราะหลง ๑ ไม่ลำเอียงเพราะกลัว ๑ ย่อมรู้ภัตที่ได้นิมนต์แล้ว
และยังไม่ได้นิมนต์ ๑ ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุภัตตุเทสก์ผู้ประกอบด้วยธรรม ๕ ประการนี้แล ย่อมเกิดในสวรรค์ เหมือนเชิญมาประดิษฐานไว้ ฯ

“Pañcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato bhattuddesako na sammannitabbo.
“Mendicants, someone with five qualities should not be appointed as meal assigner.

Katamehi pañcahi?
What five?
- 1.3
Chandāgatiṁ gacchati, dosāgatiṁ gacchati, mohāgatiṁ gacchati, bhayāgatiṁ gacchati, uddiṭṭhānuddiṭṭhaṁ na jānāti.
They make decisions prejudiced by favoritism, hostility, stupidity, and cowardice. And they don’t know if a meal has been assigned or not.

Imehi kho, bhikkhave, pañcahi dhammehi samannāgato bhattuddesako na sammannitabbo.
Someone with these five qualities should not be appointed as meal assigner.

Pañcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato bhattuddesako sammato na pesetabbo …pe… sammato pesetabbo … bālo veditabbo … paṇḍito veditabbo … khataṁ upahataṁ attānaṁ pariharati … akkhataṁ anupahataṁ attānaṁ pariharati … yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ niraye … yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ sagge.
Someone with five qualities who has been appointed as meal assigner should not be called upon … should be called upon … should be known as a fool … should be known as astute … they keep themselves broken and damaged … they keep themselves unbroken and undamaged … is placed in hell as if delivered there … is placed in heaven as if delivered there.
