Kuhakasutta

Senior mendicants who are manipulative and opportunistic are disliked.

ข้อ ๘๓ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุผู้เถระประกอบด้วยธรรม ๕ ประการย่อมไม่เป็นที่รัก ไม่เป็นที่พอใจ ไม่เป็นที่เคารพ และไม่เป็นที่ยกย่องของเพื่อนพรหมจรรย์ ธรรม ๕ ประการ เป็นไฉน คือ ภิกษุผู้เถระเป็นผู้พูดหลอกลวง ๑ เป็นผู้พูดหวังลาภ ๑ เป็นผู้พูดเลียบเคียงหา ลาภ ๑ เป็นผู้พูดคาดคั้นให้บริจาค ๑ เป็นผู้แสวงหาลาภด้วยลาภ ๑ ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุ ผู้เถระประกอบด้วยธรรม ๕ ประการนี้แล ย่อมไม่เป็นที่รัก ไม่เป็นที่พอใจ ไม่เป็นที่เคารพและ ไม่เป็นที่ยกย่องของเพื่อนพรหมจรรย์ ฯ

ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุผู้เถระประกอบด้วยธรรม ๕ ประการ ย่อมเป็นที่รัก เป็นที่ พอใจ เป็นที่เคารพ และเป็นที่ยกย่องของเพื่อนพรหมจรรย์ ธรรม๕ ประการเป็นไฉน คือ ภิกษุผู้เถระไม่เป็นผู้พูดหลอกลวง ๑ ไม่เป็นผู้พูดหวังลาภ ๑ ไม่เป็นผู้พูดเลียบเคียงหาลาภ ๑

ไม่เป็นผู้พูดคาดคั้นให้บริจาค ๑ ไม่เป็นผู้แสวงหาลาภด้วยลาภ ๑ ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุผู้ เถระประกอบด้วยธรรม ๕ประการนี้แล ย่อมเป็นที่รัก เป็นที่พอใจ เป็นที่เคารพ และเป็นที่ ยกย่องของเพื่อนพรหมจรรย์ ฯ

    “Pañcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato thero bhikkhu sabrahmacārīnaṁ appiyo ca hoti amanāpo ca agaru ca abhāvanīyo ca.

    “Mendicants, a senior mendicant with five qualities is disliked and disagreeable to their spiritual companions, not respected or admired.

    Kuhako ca hoti, lapako ca, nemittiko ca, nippesiko ca, lābhena ca lābhaṁ nijigīsitā—

    They use deceit, flattery, hinting, and belittling, and they use material things to chase after other material things.

    imehi kho, bhikkhave, pañcahi dhammehi samannāgato thero bhikkhu sabrahmacārīnaṁ appiyo ca hoti amanāpo ca agaru ca abhāvanīyo ca.

    A senior mendicant with these five qualities is disliked and disagreeable to their spiritual companions, not respected or admired.
