Like a tree that yields sap when cut, so long as desire is present it will be activated by the senses.

ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ราคะ โทสะ โมหะ ของภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีรูปใดรูปหนึ่ง มีอยู่ในรูปทั้งหลาย อันจะพึงรู้แจ้งด้วยจักษุ ภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีนั้นไม่ละราคะ โทสะ โมหะนั้นแล้ว ถ้าแม้รูปอันจะพึงรู้แจ้งด้วยจักษุ ซึ่งเป็นของเล็กน้อยผ่านคลองจักษุของภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีนั้นไป ก็ครอบงำจิตของภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีนั้นได้แท้ จะป่วยกล่าวไปไยถึงรูปอันใหญ่ยิ่ง จักไม่ครอบงำจิตของภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีนั้นเล่า ข้อนั้นเพราะเหตุไร เพราะราคะ โทสะ โมหะนั้นยังมีอยู่ ภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีนั้นยังละราคะ โทสะ โมหะนั้นไม่ได้ ราคะ โทสะ โมหะของภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีรูปใดรูปหนึ่ง มีอยู่ในเสียง … ในกลิ่น … ในรส … ในโผฏฐัพพะ … ในธรรมารมณ์อันจะพึงรู้แจ้งด้วยใจ ภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีนั้นไม่ละราคะ โทสะ โมหะนั้นแล้ว ถ้าแม้ธรรมารมณ์อันจะพึงรู้แจ้งด้วยใจ ซึ่งเป็นของเล็กน้อยผ่านทางใจของภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีนั้นไป ก็ครอบงำจิตของภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีนั้นได้แท้ จะป่วยกล่าวไปไยถึงธรรมารมณ์อันใหญ่ยิ่ง จักไม่ครอบงำจิตของภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีนั้นเล่า ข้อนั้นเพราะเหตุไร เพราะราคะ โทสะ โมหะนั้นยังมีอยู่ ภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีนั้นยังละราคะ โทสะ โมหะนั้นไม่ได้ ฯ

ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ต้นโพธิ์ ต้นไทร ต้นกร่าง หรือต้นมะเดื่อ เป็นต้นไม้มียางขนาดเขื่อง ขนาดรุ่น ขนาดเล็ก บุรุษเอาขวานอันคมสับต้นไม้นั้น ณ ที่แห่งหนึ่ง ยางพึงไหลออกหรือ ภิกษุทั้งหลายกราบทูลว่า อย่างนั้นพระเจ้าข้า ฯ

พ. ข้อนั้น เพราะอะไร ฯ

ภิ. เพราะยางมีอยู่ พระเจ้าข้า ฯ

พ. ฉันใด ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ฉันนั้นเหมือนกันแล ราคะ โทสะ โมหะของภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีรูปใดรูปหนึ่ง มีอยู่ในรูปอันจะพึงรู้แจ้งด้วยจักษุ ภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีนั้นไม่ละราคะ โทสะ โมหะนั้นแล้ว ถ้าแม้รูปอันจะพึงรู้แจ้งด้วยจักษุซึ่งเป็นของเล็กน้อยผ่านคลองจักษุของภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีนั้นไป ก็ครอบงำจิตของภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีได้แท้ จะป่วยกล่าวไปไยถึงรูปอันใหญ่ยิ่ง จักไม่ครอบงำจิตของภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีนั้นเล่า ข้อนั้นเพราะเหตุไร เพราะราคะ โทสะ โมหะยังมีอยู่ภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีนั้นยังละราคะ โทสะ โมหะนั้นไม่ได้ ราคะ โทสะ โมหะของภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีรูปใดรูปหนึ่งมีอยู่ในเสียง … ในกลิ่น … ในรส … ในโผฏฐัพพะ … ในธรรมารมณ์อันจะพึงรู้แจ้งด้วยใจ ภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีนั้นไม่ละราคะ โทสะ โมหะนั้นแล้ว ถ้าแม้ธรรมารมณ์อันจะพึงรู้แจ้งด้วยใจซึ่งเป็นของเล็กน้อยผ่านทางใจของภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีนั้นไป ย่อมครอบงำจิตของภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีนั้นได้แท้ จะป่วยกล่าวไปไยถึงธรรมารมณ์อันใหญ่ยิ่ง จักไม่ครอบงำจิตของภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีนั้นเล่า ข้อนั้นเพราะเหตุไร เพราะราคะ โทสะ โมหะยังมีอยู่ ภิกษุหรือภิกษุณีนั้นยังละราคะ โทสะ โมหะนั้นไม่ได้ ฯ

    “Yassa kassaci, bhikkhave, bhikkhussa vā bhikkhuniyā vā cakkhuviññeyyesu rūpesu yo rāgo so atthi, yo doso so atthi, yo moho so atthi, yo rāgo so appahīno, yo doso so appahīno, yo moho so appahīno tassa parittā cepi cakkhuviññeyyā rūpā cakkhussa āpāthaṁ āgacchanti pariyādiyantevassa cittaṁ; ko pana vādo adhimattānaṁ.

    “Mendicants, take any monk or nun who, when it comes to sights known by the eye, still has greed, hate, and delusion, and has not given them up. If even trivial sights come into their range of vision they overcome their mind, let alone those that are compelling.

    If a man were to chop it here and there with a sharp axe, would latex come out?”
