  5. 1.1

    Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:

    This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

  6. 2.1

    “Ekadhammaṁ, bhikkhave, pajahatha;

    “Mendicants, give up one thing

  7. 2.2

    ahaṁ vo pāṭibhogo anāgāmitāya.

    and I guarantee you non-return.

  8. 2.3

    Katamaṁ ekadhammaṁ?

    What one thing?

  9. 2.4

    Kodhaṁ, bhikkhave, ekadhammaṁ pajahatha;

    Anger is the one thing. Give it up,

  10. 2.5

    ahaṁ vo pāṭibhogo anāgāmitāyā”ti.

    and I guarantee you non-return.”

  11. 2.6

    Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca.

    The Buddha spoke this matter.

    Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:

    On this it is said:

    “Yena kodhena kuddhāse,

    “When overcome by anger

  14. 3.2

    sattā gacchanti duggatiṁ;

    beings go to a bad place.

  15. 3.3

    Taṁ kodhaṁ sammadaññāya,

    Having rightly understood that anger,

  16. 3.4

    pajahanti vipassino;

    the discerning give it up.

  17. 3.5

    Pahāya na punāyanti,

    Once they’ve given it up,

  18. 3.6

    imaṁ lokaṁ kudācanan”ti.

    they never return to this world.”

  19. 4.1

    Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.

    This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
