SN 2.17

Subrahmasutta

Subrahmā the god asks for the escape from fear. The Buddha says there is no escape from fear without letting go of everything.

ข้อความไทยนี้คือ พระไตรปิฎกภาษาไทย ฉบับหลวง ซึ่งแปลจากพระไตรปิฎกบาลีคนละฉบับกับบาลีที่แสดงอยู่ด้านล่าง จึงไม่ได้เรียงตรงกันบรรทัดต่อบรรทัด — อ่านเป็นสำนวนแปลอิสระอีกฉบับหนึ่ง

สุพรหมเทวบุตร ยืนอยู่ ณ ที่ควรส่วนข้างหนึ่งแล้ว ได้กราบทูลพระผู้มีพระภาคด้วยคาถาว่า จิตนี้สะดุ้งอยู่เป็นนิตย์ ใจนี้หวาดเสียวอยู่เป็นนิตย์ ถ้าเมื่อกิจทั้งหลายยังไม่เกิดขึ้น หรือเกิดขึ้นแล้วก็ตาม ถ้าความไม่สะดุ้งกลัวมีอยู่ ข้าพระองค์ทูลถามแล้ว ขอจงตรัสบอกข้อนั้นแก่ข้าพระองค์ ฯ

พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสว่า นอกจากปัญญาและความเพียร นอกจากความสำรวมอินทรีย์ นอกจากความสละวางโดยประการทั้งปวง เรายังไม่เห็นความสวัสดีแห่งสัตว์ทั้งหลาย ฯ

สุพรหมเทวบุตรได้กล่าวดังนี้แล้ว ฯลฯ ก็อันตรธานไปในที่นั้นเอง ฯ

    Ekamantaṁ ṭhito kho subrahmā devaputto bhagavantaṁ gāthāya ajjhabhāsi:

    Standing to one side, the godling Subrahmā addressed the Buddha in verse:

    “Niccaṁ utrastamidaṁ cittaṁ,

    “This mind is always anxious,

  6. 2.2

    niccaṁ ubbiggamidaṁ mano;

    this mind is always stressed

  7. 2.3

    Anuppannesu kicchesu,

    about stresses that haven’t arisen

  8. 2.4

    atho uppatitesu ca;

    and those that have.

  9. 2.5

    Sace atthi anutrastaṁ,

    If there is a state free of anxiety,

  10. 2.6

    taṁ me akkhāhi pucchito”ti.

    please answer my question.”

    “Nāññatra bojjhā tapasā,

    “Not without understanding and fervor,

    nāññatrindriyasaṁvarā;

    not without restraining the sense faculties,

    Nāññatra sabbanissaggā,

    sotthiṁ passāmi pāṇinan”ti.
