Indriyasampannasutta

One is accomplished in the sense faculties by being freed from attachment to them.

ฉบับหลวงอินทรียสูตร

ข้อความไทยนี้คือ พระไตรปิฎกภาษาไทย ฉบับหลวง ซึ่งแปลจากพระไตรปิฎกบาลีคนละฉบับกับบาลีที่แสดงอยู่ด้านล่าง จึงไม่ได้เรียงตรงกันบรรทัดต่อบรรทัด — อ่านเป็นสำนวนแปลอิสระอีกฉบับหนึ่ง

ครั้งนั้นแล ภิกษุรูปหนึ่งเข้าไปเฝ้าพระผู้มีพระภาคถึงที่ประทับฯลฯ ครั้นแล้ว ได้ทูลถามพระผู้มีพระภาคว่า ข้าแต่พระองค์ผู้เจริญ ที่พระองค์ตรัสว่าภิกษุผู้ถึงพร้อมด้วยอินทรีย์ๆ ดังนี้ ภิกษุเป็นผู้ถึงพร้อมด้วยอินทรีย์ด้วยเหตุเพียงเท่าไรหนอ พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสว่า ดูกรภิกษุ ถ้าว่าภิกษุพิจารณาเห็นความเกิดขึ้นและความเสื่อมไปในจักขุนทรีย์ ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายในจักขุนทรีย์ ฯลฯ พิจารณาเห็นความเกิดขึ้นและความเสื่อมในมนินทรีย์ ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายในมนินทรีย์ เมื่อเบื่อหน่าย ย่อมคลายกำหนัด เพราะคลายกำหนัดจึงหลุดพ้น เมื่อหลุดพ้นแล้ว ย่อมมีญาณหยั่งรู้ว่า หลุดพ้นแล้ว รู้ชัดว่า ชาติสิ้นแล้ว พรหมจรรย์อยู่จบแล้ว กิจที่ควรทำ ทำเสร็จแล้ว กิจอื่นเพื่อความเป็นอย่างนี้มิได้มี ดูกรภิกษุ ภิกษุเป็นผู้ถึงพร้อมด้วยอินทรีย์ด้วยเหตุ เพียงเท่านี้แล ฯ

    Atha kho aññataro bhikkhu yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami …pe… ekamantaṁ nisinno kho so bhikkhu bhagavantaṁ etadavoca:

    Then a mendicant went up to the Buddha … and asked him,

    “‘indriyasampanno, indriyasampanno’ti, bhante, vuccati.

    “Sir, they speak of someone who is ‘accomplished in the faculties’.

    Kittāvatā nu kho, bhante, indriyasampanno hotī”ti?

    How is someone accomplished in the faculties defined?”

    “Mendicant, if someone meditates observing rise and fall in the eye faculty, they grow disillusioned with the eye faculty.

    If they meditate observing rise and fall in the ear faculty … nose faculty … tongue faculty … body faculty …

    manindriye ce, bhikkhu, udayabbayānupassī viharanto manindriye nibbindati.

    mind faculty, they grow disillusioned with the mind faculty.

    Nibbindaṁ virajjati …pe… vimuttasmiṁ vimuttamiti ñāṇaṁ hoti.

    Being disillusioned, desire fades away. … When they’re freed, they know they’re freed.

    ‘Khīṇā jāti, vusitaṁ brahmacariyaṁ, kataṁ karaṇīyaṁ, nāparaṁ itthattāyā’ti pajānāti.

    They understand: ‘Rebirth is ended, the spiritual journey has been completed, what had to be done has been done, there is nothing further for this place.’

    Ettāvatā kho, bhikkhu, indriyasampanno hotī”ti.

    This is how someone who is accomplished in the faculties is defined.”
